Gowning: Simple, Safe + Effective

Gowning: Simple, Safe + Effective ✨

Gowning is a key part of maintaining asepsis in theatre! Doing it correctly helps reduce contamination + keeps our patients safe.

✨ Why gowning matters

  • maintains a sterile field
  • reduces the risk of infection
  • protects both our patient + our team

✨ Step-by-Step

1. Prepare your space

  • stand in a clear area
  • avoid contact with others or surfaces

2. Find the sleeves

  • hold gown at the shoulders
  • check it's the correct way around

3. Let the gown unfold

  • keep hands high
  • don't let it touch the floor

4. Insert your arms

  • slide arms into sleeves
  • move through gently

5. Stop at the wrists

  • do not push hands out fully
  • keep hands inside for closed gloving

6. Ask for help

  • assistant pulls gown over shoulders
  • secures neck ties

7. Secure the waist

  • helper ties the gown at the back/side
  • if sterile tie - pass around + secure properly

✨ Quick Takeaway

  • keep everything sterile + controlled
  • hands stay inside sleeves before gloving
  • always use a helper to secure
